Sustainable Business Practices

The Execu|Search Group is committed to responsible corporate citizenship, and we believe that this includes a dedication to maintaining sustainable and ethical business practices. We are constantly re-evaluating our business practices in order to become a more energy efficient and environmentally-friendly firm. From waste reduction to community investment, our commitment to sustainability began many years ago and we’re consistently setting new goals to enhance our sustainability initiatives year after year.

While a commitment to sustainability starts with the firm’s leadership, it involves a communal effort from all stakeholders – staff, clients, vendors, and building management.

Community Investment

Our firm has a long history of supporting worthy causes and organizations in the New York City Tri-State area, Greater Boston, and throughout the world. On a monthly basis, our firm raises money or goods for a charity that has been nominated by our staff, and The Execu|Search Group matches the donations made during these charitable fundraisers.

Our staff recognizes the significance of their community in their own personal success and happily work hard to give back. As the driving force behind our community initiatives, staff members participate in community charity events, volunteer their time to a variety of causes, and make donations to a wide range of organizations. We encourage staff to get involved as volunteers and supporters of community organizations and offer all staff members an extra day off to volunteer their time.

In addition to individual volunteering, a group of employees at The Execu|Search Group volunteer together as a way to utilize their professional skills to help others.  Whether they’re acting as a career mentor in a professional development program through Hiring Our Heroes, or offering resume and interview advice to job seekers through Dress for Success, it’s all part of our commitment to give back to the community.  Currently, 20% of Execu|Search employees are involved in community initiatives, and our goal is to raise that involvement to 30% by mid-2014.

Here is just a small sampling of some of our staff members who show their commitment to enhancing our community through volunteering and service:

Katie Niekrash - Senior Managing Director, Healthcare

Katie Niekrash
“I volunteer with Day One's Youth Voices Network, which is an organization dedicated to ending domestic violence and that focuses on educating young people about the subject. My role is to speak to teens in various forums, sharing my story to help educate them about the signs of domestic violence and what to do if they may be in an abusive relationship or have a friend who is in an abusive relationship.”

Jonathan Silverman - Director, Accounting/Finance

Jonathan Silverman
“I'm a member of the Junior Committee of the St. Mary's Healthcare System for Children. The Junior Committee is dedicated to creating a community and a network for members to meet, learn, exchange ideas, and contribute to each other’s success, while serving the mission of St. Mary’s.”

Dana Scurlock - Staffing Manager, Nonprofit Division

Dana Scurlock
"This is my second year as a professional mentor through an organization called Summer Search. The mission of Summer Search is to find resilient low-income high school students and inspire them to become community leaders. They provide year-round mentoring, college advising, and a lasting support network. I am currently mentoring an alumni of the program who is in her sophomore year of college. We practice interviewing, discuss resume revisions and create goal assessments."

Other charities and organizations that our staff members actively support include:

The Execu|Search Group Supports: Greenwich Teen Center, TRT Cares, UCP, JP Morgan Corporate Challenge, Avon Walk, Walk MS, Alzheimer's Association, Jersey Cares, Monmouth Cares, Williams Syndrome, YAI

We are proud of the unique ways our staff works to strengthen their communities, and we look forward to continuing to help support these causes in their mission to improve the lives of others.

Energy Use & Waste Management

The Execu|Search Group supports environmentally-friendly initiatives, and we’re committed to a policy of conservation and waste reduction. In the last several years, we’ve expanded our use of “paperless processes,” including a transition to paperless timesheets, invoices, applications, and marketing materials.  Our goal is to be 85% paperless by mid-2014, so we’re educating clients and candidates about our transition to digital documents. In addition to the processes we support within the office, our NYC headquarters building contains a “green roof” that provides added insulation and helps keep our waterways clean by reducing runoff during storms. Building tenants are also committed to a recycling program that diverts significant waste from landfills, and we actively participate in the EPA’s WasteWise program.

Workplace Wellness

We know that our people really are the key to our success, and investing in our talent is a key element in our commitment to social responsibility.  In the past year, we’ve expanded our emphasis on providing informational sessions for all employees on a range of topics, from healthy lifestyle habits, to financial planning and time management. We now offer incentives for healthy habits, including reimbursements for gym memberships, and look to have 60% firm-wide involvement by January of 2014.
